"These paintings serve as metaphors for the perception of reality, and what is a pictorial representation of reality. To create these paintings, I employ the objective illusory pictorial space of a photograph in opposition to the subjective illusory pictorial mark making of painting. By manually creating paintings that represent a mechanical instability I hope to create images that are self-contradictory and challenge the viewer’s perceptions of what is reality and therefore what is a pictorial representation of reality."
