A studio trained potter, I have honed my skills in a variety of settings primarily in Washington State and Arizona. My training runs the gamut from tile making, hand building, wheel throwing, primitive pottery techniques and encompasses experience in a variety of firing techniques. In addition to my classroom training, I have taken dozens of workshops at the local and national level.
My clay work consists of sculptural forms, functional and tile clay work altered to impart an unusual quality, rendering the pieces unique in some way. This is achieved through texturing, shaping, brushwork and carving. Work in oils and collage reflect the themes and subjects of my clay work, complementing these pieces. Not all subjects and forms inspire me; when they do I try to capture a feature that expresses character, humor, something unique or compelling.
