The artist expresses himself through creating the work of art.  The collector expresses himself through an emotional connection by liking and acquiring a piece of art.  Sometimes the “urge to have” is nothing more than a visual appeal of the colors. \n \nAlternatively\, the piece may appeal on a deeper emotional level by transmitting something secret to a collector.  Artists expressing themselves include the textured depiction of saguaros by Diane Barbee.  Patricia Hunter shows impeccably rendered animal watercolors.
