Native Spirit
A Gold Palette ArtWalk
Thursday, March 4th, 7:00 – 9:00 PM
Artist Nocona Burgess will be in attendance to discuss his work.
A show of Native Spirit interpretations by Native and non-native artists.
View new work by Nocona Burgess – a member of the Comanche Nation of Oklahoma. Sculptor Greyshoes, whose heritage includes Santa Clara Pueblo and White Mountain Apache, will be showing new work. Non-Native Jim Nelson’s paintings are a metaphor for a spiritual connection to the natural world, and Lance Green’s work is like an abstracted portrait of Native people because he has always resonated spiritually and aesthetically with them. His work is definitely about Native Spirit. Comanche artist Eric Tippeconnic’s work will also be on display along with other artists’ interpretations.

Tucson Native, Melinda Curtin will be bringing beautiful new work for a special showing at this event.
Melinda Curtin transforms vintage windows and frames into surfaces for reverse glass painting. Inspired by the culture and stark beauty of both Tucson and greater the Sonoran region, Curtin’s color palette and subjects include traditional Mexican and Southwestern as well as those from her imagination.
Sculptor Jess Davila is also returning for this event.
Jess Davila spent his formative years in the beautiful State of Sonora, Mexico. He grew up exploring and appreciating the unspoiled beauty of the desert and mountainous regions of his homeland. Davila focuses on exploring a unique contemporary style. A completely self-taught artist, Davila draws on his experiences with various mediums which allow him to express and develop the many facets of his artistic talent and to further develop his creative being. Inspired by the shape, color and the texture of various stones, Davila creates a natural interpretation of what is already in his artist’s eye.
Sarah Webber will be demonstrating her painting skills.
Sarah Webber is well known for her paintings of cows and wildlife which seem to possess personality, charm or even humor. Sarah delves into the details of her subjects capturing individuality, from the color of a nose, the spark she observes in the eyes, the thickness of fur or the curve of an ear. Webber’s art is expressive and spontaneous.
Also meet talented jewelry designers Adriana Walker, and Joan Robinson. Lawrence Peters will be showing his unique naturally printed scarves.
Adriana Walker’s original artisan jewelry is crafted using semiprecious gems, pearls, silver, copper as well as her own fused glass creations. Inspired by her multi-cultural background and love of travel, she has developed a unique and recognizable style. Her unusual techniques and composition makes her jewelry one of a kind pieces of art.
Lawrence Peters is a fiber artist and weaver of fine handwoven textiles. When not at his loom, he coaxes real petals and leaves to embed their color and pattern into silk. The process is known as eco-printing and is part of the natural dyeing tradition. He uses a variety of petals and leaves – rose, citrus, eucalyptus, grevillea, peony, trumpet bells, pomegranate, and more.
Come and check out these and other artists and vendors.
