This show highlights equine images that go beyond traditional equine renderings. Sherri Belassen transforms horse figures into blocks of color and detail that say “horse”, but is in reality an abstract painting. Karen Bezuidenhout shows the equine figures as basic forms, with almost no detail. Amy Watts’ narrative paintings require the viewer pick out the horse from a myriad of puzzle-like color forms. Theresa Paden assigns outrageous hues to her beautifully rendered horses. Leslie Anne Webb presents humor in the shenanigans of her equines. Other artists showing include Chaille Trevor, Andrea Peterson and more. Also showing animal art by Trevor Mikula and Connie Townsend.

September brings a group show of artists who specialize in abstract art. Many of them apply various techniques and materials to achieve extraordinary art. Melissa Johnson’s work is usually done on canvas or panel with applications of cold wax and oil paint to achieve a matte textured finish. Robert Charon’s paintings are mostly linear abstract acrylic paintings with a thick transparent final coat. Nancy and Sandy Pendleton combine talents to produce significant art composed of acrylic paint over paper texturing and finished with glass objects as the focal point. Other abstract artists include Debora Stewart, Ana Marini-Genzon and more.

Some artists use an economy of color, strokes, and composition, while others pay great attention to detail work in their art. This show highlights art with detail. Sometimes paintings appear to be very simple, but upon closer observation, one can see that there is actually great detail. One such artist is Jeff Cochran, whose landscapes, upon initial view, look very simple. In reality great attention has been paid to the details of placement of the paint upon the beautiful linen base he uses. In contrast, Barbara Gurwitz paints complicated landscapes which look very detailed, but in reality are very painterly. Other detail artists shown are Amy Watts, Rachel Slick, Fran Larsen, Sushe Felix, and more.

WILDE MEYER GALLERY is well known for its colorful eclectic art presentations. Even though WILDE MEYER ANNEX specializes in animal related art, these pieces can be in splendid color also. This show presents animals in imaginative hues to downright conjured up hues. Some of the artists showing, like Theresa Paden, portray close up images of realistically proportioned animals in outrageous colors. Other artists, like Jaime Ellsworth, add the real punch of color through complicated compositions. Greg Dye uses gigantic slashes of vibrant color to create iconic bison. Other artists use traditionally painted subjects surrounded by color.

A group show with artists presenting everything from realistic interpretations of western landscapes to stylized interpretations of iconic western images. Charles Davison’s unique mixed media pieces are influenced by folk and native American art. Amy Watts takes western imagery to a whole new level with complicated paintings which narrate a whole story.

WILDE MEYER ANNEX specializes in animal art. Some artists paint animals as the main subject, others paint or sculpt animals in situations – real or imagined. Connie Townsend substitutes animals in place of humans in exciting situations. Judy Feldman includes animals in inviting rooms and gardens to show a sense of scale and comfort. Artists like James Swanson include animals in landscapes to invoke a sense of nostalgia and appreciation of nature. Still others make the animal the complete picture, whether realistic or reincarnated with imaginative colors.

Sometimes art evokes feelings, sensations – a sense of nostalgia from somewhere deep in our memory psyches. Maybe a visual similarity, color or energy draws the viewer to like a piece of art or maybe even dislike it. That is what art is about. Art can provoke or soothe – make us feel happy or sad and these feelings could be based on life experiences.
