Known for their fabulous animal artists, Wilde Meyer Gallery will be presenting a show highlighting our nonhuman companions. Everything from the usual dogs and cats to feathered friends and rabbits will be represented.
“Amazing Animals” will open for the 1st annual Bone Appétit Artwalk. Everything from the photorealism of watercolorist Patricia Hunter to the offbeat oil on canvas interpretations of Trevor Mikula will be shown.
Most noted artists include Patricia Hunter, Jamie Ellsworth, Karen Bezuidenhout, Chaille Trevor, Sarah Webber, Sheridan Brown, Judy Feldman and many others.

Acacia Alder brings new meaning to Arizona desert plants. Whether painting saguaros, ocotillos or Palo Verde trees, Alder gives inspired and unconventional interpretations of common desert flora.
Monika Rossa’s paintings take you to imaginary places, filled with regal or romantic young women often shown with iconic dream symbols. Other Arizona artists included are Timothy Chapman, Judith Choate, Ka Fisher and many others.

Included will be artist Karen Bezuidenhout, whose work carries rough abstractions of her people and animal subjects to the minimum to express her ideas. Jamie Ellsworth paints mostly animals. Ellsworth’s paintings could work as pure abstractions as well as portraying playful animals. Sherri Belassen’s figurative abstractions are spontaneous and addictive. No one can buy just one. Barbara Gurwitz astounds the viewer with gutsy color and complicated landscape compositions.

Jim Nelson, though not Native by blood, is the sparrow who hunts with the hawks. His study and travels through the Nez Perce country, lead him to paint and interpret a time when animal spirits were tied to everyday life. The colors he uses are strong intense, and based on the sacred power colors of the Lakota People.
Susano Morales is a second-generation Oaxacan carver, and is considered the best of the 2nd generation of wood carvers. Unlike most Oaxacan carvers, Susana is able to achieve the appearance of fluid movement in his carved animals. Susano’s wife, Tibida Jimenez Morales, the niece of Manual Jimenez who is credited with pioneering Oaxacan carvings, is the painter of these beautiful carvings.
Other artists shown give modern and traditional interpretations of native folklore. Other artists showing include Linda Carter Holman, Deb Komitor and Greg Dye.

Thom’s paintings portray famous western characters in a simplified rugged “shoot em up” style. In contrast, Joseph Young’s paintings show Western cowboys along with their faithful animal companions in a Southwestern version of the Garden of Eden, where everything is relaxed and enjoyable.
No Wilde Meyer western show could be complete without horses. Chaille Trevor knows and paints horses like no one else. Straightforward and to the point, Chaille’s paintings capture the correct anatomy and graceful movement of one of the world’s most beautiful animals. Tracy Miller’s fauvist colored paintings of western wild animals contrast greatly with Chaille’s soft subtle horses. Miller’s interpretations engage the viewer, first through an attraction to bright color, then with the playful rendering of the animals’ personalities.

“Gem Show” runs February 6, 2014 and continues through March 1, 2014.
Established in 1983, Wilde Meyer Gallery moves it’s 30 year anniversary celebration to Tucson. Please join us for “The Journey – 30 Years”, opening January 9, 2014, 7 – 9 PM.
The gallery will be highlighting artists who have been with them for many years, Linda Carter Holman, Barbara Gurwitz, Charles Davison to name a few, and also highlighting artists added on the 30 year journey. Linda Carter Holman is the ultimate storyteller, combining fantasy with reality. In the painting “Little Winds”, young maidens float through air as the personification of wind. They are grounded by the beautiful woman walking in the landscape foreground, but she seems to be contemplating lifting off to join the weightless girls.
Charles Davison’s native and folk influenced mixed media pieces have charmed Wilde Meyer’s collectors for many years. Davison’s distinctive work is always recognizable. Often referencing religious icons, Davison gives his interpretations of Old Testament heroes like Jonah and the Whale, and New Testament Saints, like the charming naive St Francis, surrounded by stylized animals in “Brother’s Keeper”.
Barbara Gurwitz’s Fauvist colored landscapes have knocked the socks off collectors for over 20 years at Wilde Meyer. Paintings by other prestigious artists like Jacqueline Rochester, Stephen Morath, Sherri Belassen, Patricia Hunter, Nancy Pendleton and others too numerous to mention, will also be shown.
Show will be hanging December 12, 2013 – January 31, 2014. Receptions will be Saturday, December 28 for Fiesta Bowl ArtWalk, and January 16, 2014 for the 2nd Annual Collector’s Artwalk.

Celebrate the holidays and Fiesta Bowl with Wilde Meyer Annex artists. Participating artists include Stephan Morath, who portrays the Navidad evening procession “Las Posadas” with all the charm and reverence befitting the event.
Deb Komitor portrays another sort of celebration – that of Myth and nature combined. Her animals seem to converse with each other as well as the viewer. In the painting “In Council with the Spirit Bear” Komitor’s white ravens advise the approaching white bear.
Michelle Mackenzie expresses sheer joy and happiness in her ceramic depictions of animals. “The Journey” a bright red ceramic horse carrying two preening birds is beautifully typical of Mackenzie’s work. Susano Morales is one of the best 2nd generation Oaxacan carvers, and his brightly painted animals enthrall art lovers.
There will be many more exciting artists, including Alix Stefan, Stefano, Leigh Gustersan, Charles Davison.
In addition to the celebratory originals, Wilde Meyer Annex will show our annual ornament collection. These ornaments show images graciously donated by our artists, to benefit animal charities. They are great for Hanukkah or Christmas giving.
