“Scottsdale galleries are planning a “Quick Draw” for Saturday, Nov. 9 as their part in Scottsdale’s multi-event “Fall for the Arts,” which is running Nov. 8-10. In the style of an old-fashioned shootout, Main Street will be closed for its 10am Paint Out with 30 artists using paints & brushes instead of guns & bullets.

Artists will paint or sculpt intensely for two hours and then watch as their original works get auctioned off at High Noon – while the paint’s still wet! – right smack dab in the center of Main Street in Downtown Scottsdale, between Scottsdale Road and Marshall Way. Simultaneously, 30 major art shows are planned in nearby galleries and there will be live music along the ArtWalk route. It’s all free to the public!”

Wilde Meyer artists Andrea Peterson and Sarah Webber will be participating along with several artists represented by various Scottsdale galleries.

Opening reception Thursday November 7, 2013, with festivities continuing through “Quick Draw” on Main Street, Saturday afternoon November 9th. Show to hang through November 30th.

Wilde Meyer Annex will open “Eclectic Fusion.” Artists shown will include Andrea Peterson, Jeff Ferst, Karen Bezuidenhout, and Sherri Belassen, along with many others.

Meet well-known Scottsdale artist, Andrea Peterson who frequently combines traditional imagery with slick contemporary finishes. Andrea will be participating in the Saturday Quick Draw event, along with another celebrated Wilde Meyer artist, classical animal portraitist Sarah Webber.

Artist Jeff Ferst is a new addition to the Wilde Meyer lineup. His yummy candy-colored thickly painted canvases beckon the viewer’s touch. Another of Wilde Meyer’s sought after artists, Sherri Belassen will be showing her stylized abstract figures, while Ryan Hale presents his classic abstract acrylic paintings on canvas.

Little Winds

Established in 1983, Wilde Meyer Gallery has seen many changes to the Scottsdale art scene. Please join us for “The Journey – 30 Years”, opening November 7, 2013, 7 – 9 PM.

The gallery will be highlighting artists who have been with them for many years, Linda Carter Holman, Barbara Gurwitz, Charles Davison to name a few, and also highlighting artists added on the 30 year journey. Linda Carter Holman is the ultimate storyteller, combining fantasy with reality. In the painting “Little Winds”, young maidens float through air as the personification of wind. They are grounded by the beautiful woman walking in the landscape foreground, but she seems to be contemplating lifting off to join the weightless girls.

Charles Davison’s native and folk influenced mixed media pieces have charmed Wilde Meyer’s collectors for many years. Davison’s distinctive work is always recognizable. Often referencing religious icons, Davison gives his interpretations of Old Testament heroes like Jonah and the Whale, and New Testament Saints, like the charming naive St Francis, surrounded by stylized animals in “Brother’s Keeper”.

Barbara Gurwitz’s Fauvist colored landscapes have knocked the socks off collectors for over 20 years at Wilde Meyer. Paintings by other prestigious artists like Jacqueline Rochester, Stephen Morath, Sherri Belassen, Patricia Hunter, Nancy Pendleton and others too numerous to mention, will also be shown.

Several artists will be in attendance for the reception Thursday, November 7 from 5 PM – 7 PM.

Celebrating our 30th anniversary in Arizona, Wilde Meyer Gallery will be featuring artists of the west. In a show titled “Loving the West”, artists who work in a variety of styles will be shown. Included will be Linda Carter Holman whose interpretations of the west have been some of Wilde Meyer clients’ favorites for most of these 30 years. In Holman’s painting “Little Winds” feminine figures traverse the western landscape lifting off as personifications of whirlwinds, while a grounded figure seems to be eager to join their fanciful flight.

Another long time Wilde Meyer artist, Barbara Gurwitz will show her gutsy landscapes which imbue vivid colors to colloquial villages mountains and fields. Roger Alderman presents a more traditional plein air style of the painting the western landscape.

Western animal artists also present divergent styles. Tracy Miller shows western animals, like cattle, horses and coyotes in vibrant primary hot colors, while Sarah Webber paints them in a more traditional realistic style. Other artists shown include Jeff Cochran, Chaille Trevor and many others.

Wilde Meyer Annex presents “Variations,” showing bright and colorful contemporary paintings and sculptures by a variety of artists.

Bright and colorful landscapes by Leigh Gusterson, Michelle Chrisman and Barbara Gurwitz will be shown along with subdued, desert landscapes by Alix Stefan.

Humorous and witty paintings by Melinda Curtin, Stephano or Trevor Mikula can feature anything from animal caricatures wearing suits and hats or dogs dancing in the desert.

Also showing will be paintings and prints by Linda Carter Holman and Thom Ross and art by many others. The fabulous art is displayed with jewelry and sculptures in a setting of beautiful Asian antiques.

“Variations” opens on Thursday, October 3rd and continues through November 6th.

Wilde Meyer Gallery’s group show “The Many Faces of Nature” features the many different interpretations and individualistic styles of artists who confront and portray the natural areas of the Southwest.

Albert Scharf’s landscapes capture the dramatic effects of light and atmosphere in scenes of soft, gentle clouds drifting over distant mesas and mountains.

Michelle Chrisman’s paintings portray the Southwest in intense colors with searing red cliffs and golden desert populated with emerald green vegetation.

Jeff Cochran’s paintings of the rustic countryside feature long shadows and subtle shifts of light and dark that create moody afternoons and dreamy, early mornings.

In landscapes as diverse as birch forests, desert plains or riverbeds, Acacia Alder depicts an interplay of light and color with interconnecting tree branches, leaves, rocks and brush thickets in her paintings.

In her modernist paintings, Sushe Felix transforms mesas, mountains, cacti and sky into simplified shapes which are composed into smooth, rhythmic landscapes.

Also showing will be art by Barbara Gurwitz, Gregory Stocks, Michael Baum with many others.

“The Many Faces of Nature” runs October 3, 2013 and continues through November 6, 2013.

“Introductions” showcases new artists at Wilde Meyer and the new directions taken in their works including animal paintings, abstracts, landscapes and Western.

Using thick impasto paint and primary colors, Greg Dye paints a variety of subjects including ravens, Native Americans and mountaincapes.

Judy Choate paintings drift between the realm of abstraction and realism as gradations of purple and blue skies flowing into rust red and orange colored mountains.

Melissa Johnson’s multipanel abstract paintings present viewers with a variety of surfaces including real and painted textures and metallic surfaces.

As an artist who explores a multitude of subjects in styles that range from colorfield abstract to impressionist, Jacqueline Ellens’s art is characterized by her appreciation of nature and natural forms.

Michelle MacKenzie’s small, ceramic bird sculptures, Robert Rose’s carved, abstract stone sculptures, Jeff Ferst’s landscapes, and Rachel Slick’s retablo assemblages will be shown as well as art by many others.
