Man’s interaction with the bovine species goes back eons. Appreciation for bovines dates back to cave paintings depicting wild bison for hunting, and in Greek mythology – Hera’s fascination with the bull. Bovines had elevated status throughout ancient Crete and the Middle East. Cattle are revered in the Hindu religion. Moving into modern times, Westerners appreciated seeing a beautiful herd of cattle on the range. Artists shown include Dana Hooper, Sherri Belassen, Linda Carter Holman, and many others.

“Dogs Rule – Horses Rock” will feature some of WILDE MEYER’s best equine and canine artists. Artists include Chaille Trevor, Connie Townsend, Sushe Felix, Sherri Belassen, Karen Bezuidenhout, Jaime Ellsworth, and many more. Chaille Trevor specializes in painting the classical beauty of the horse. Sarah Webber’s wild burros exude charm whether shown in their natural habitat or as adoptees in domestic settings. Jaime Ellsworth often combines abstracted figures of equines and canines. Other artists include horses and dogs as part of a larger picture – participants in imaginary scenes. Connie Townsend shows emancipated dogs driving cars and motorcycles. Patricia Hunter captures the souls of her watercolor dogs. Sometimes the word abstract brings to mind a canvas full of squiggles, spaces, and colors with no recognizable subject. But often artists begin with a subject in mind then abstract or simplify it to get to the essence of what they want to convey. The painting may not really be about the subject, but about the art of the painting. Artists showing include Ava Young, Tierney Miller, and Nancy Pendleton who work in pure abstracts. Artists who present recognizable subjects in an abstracted way will include Brenda Bredvik, Jacqueline Ellens, and Melinda Hall. Ron Russon presents traditional western subjects in an abstracted way. Many artists work in both pure abstract and recognizable abstracted subject matter; such as Ryan Hale and Debora Stewart. WILDE MEYER ANNEX will be featuring the show “Desert Spring” in conjunction with Scottsdale’s “Spring into the Arts” ArtWalk. Colorful landscapes, bold abstracts, and eclectic imagery by regional artists will be highlighted. Included are classic Southwestern landscapes by Kathryn Willis. New Mexico artists Suzanne Betz and Jeff Cochran will be showing combined abstract and equine imagery and fertile New Mexican landscapes respectively. Arizona artist, Sarah Webber will present wildlife, cattle, and critters. And Utah artist Ron Russon will be showing his unique style of presenting landscapes and animal imagery. WILDE MEYER GALLERY’s show “The Wilde Wild Best” will feature numerous artist’s depictions of western related themes. Subjects represented include Native American studies of the Lakota people by Jim Nelson and shoot ‘em up gunfighters and lawmen by Thom Ross. James Swanson’s paintings represent a more classical view of the west through his beautiful renditions of wild horse herds at the waterhole and cattle grazing. Michael Swearngin’s awesome contemporary renditions of stylized cowboys, horses, ravens and bulls will also be hanging, along with many other artists. Other subjects include wildlife and landscapes.
